WHAT DOES DARK MODE ANY APP  DO?

Dark Mode Any App allows you to switch any application to dark mode using a configurable macro (set to ALT + Q by default). Dark Mode Any App helps prevent eye strain and reduces exposure to bright light. This is beneficial for your sleep, since light from your screen can affect sleep quality.

Dark Mode Any App offers a user interface allowing you to configure various helpful options. It runs in the background and can be set to remember which applications you prefer to display in dark mode. Compatibility for legacy applications and older versions of Windows has been prioritised throughout development.

HOW IS DARK MODE ANY APP  DIFFERENT TO OTHER AVAILABLE PROGRAMS?

There are programs which allow you to make your entire screen filtered, but we offer the possibility of dark mode on a window by window basis. We ensure compatibility with legacy applications which do not natively support dark mode. We make the configuration / window selection process as streamlined and simple as possible so that you do not need to configure dark mode on an application every time it is opened. Instead, our program remembers your choices and implements them silently and seamlessly.

WHAT IS THE ‘REMEMBER DARK WINDOW SELECTION’ CHECKBOX FOR?

When this option is enabled, Dark Mode Any App will remember which windows you have opted to make dark, even after the computer has been restarted. Opening a new instance of the same application will cause the new window to be opened in dark mode also. Enabling this option makes means that Dark Mode Any App keeps a list of window class names which should be rendered in dark mode. Since the same application will generally always open similar windows using the same class names, these new instances will be rendered in dark mode too.

WHAT IF I UNCHECK THE ‘REMEMBER DARK WINDOW SELECTION’ CHECKBOX?

When this option is disabled, Dark Mode Any App no longer maintains a permanent list of window class names which should be made dark. Instead it maintains a temporary list of window handles. Since these handles are different every time you start an application, you will need to press the macro on an ‘as needed’ basis. This could be useful if, for example, you want to make a particular application dark on an occasional basis.

WHAT IS THE ‘REMEMBER ABOVE SELECTION ON RESTART’ CHECKBOX FOR?

This can only be enabled when the ‘Remember Dark Window Selection’ checkbox is also enabled. It ensures that the dark window class name list is stored and reloaded even if Dark Mode Any App (or your computer) is restarted.

WHAT DOES THE ‘ERASE DARK WINDOW LIST’ BUTTON DO?

When pressed, Dark Mode Any App will erase its list of class names / window handles, meaning that all dark mode windows will go back to normal.

WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF USING DARK MODE?

• Light emitted from your screen is not good for your sleep, and this can have an impact on your general health. While blue light filters can be of some help in this regard, you can reduce the level of light entering your eyes from your screen far more by correcting the overall colour scheme of the applications you use most frequently.
• Viewing a dark window is more comfortable than staring into the bright light of a white window. If you get used to a dark filtered application then switch it back to normal mode, you may wonder how you were ever able to get by before. Dark windows are a lot more enjoyable to work with.
• Bright windows can cause eyestrain, which can lead to other problems such as dry-eye. By making your viewing experience more comfortable, you can reduce the risk of eye-related problems occurring.
• Reducing the intensity of bright light emitted from your screen can improve your battery life, allowing you to be productive for longer.

CAN I USE DARK MODE ANY APP  TO BROWSE THE WEB?

Yes, but you might find that it is better to use a browser extension which is specifically designed for this purpose. While Dark Mode Any App will flip your browser window dark, it is predominantly designed for desktop applications – in particular those which do not offer native dark mode support.

HOW DO I INSTALL DARK MODE ANY APP?

Please download the Windows installer executable from our homepage. Windows SmartScreen may attempt to block the installation, in which case simply click ‘More Info‘ -> ‘Run Anyway‘.

HOW DO I REMOVE DARK MODE ANY APP  FROM MY MACHINE?

Dark Mode Any App can be completely uninstalled by selecting the program from ‘Control Panel‘ -> ‘Programs and Features‘. The uninstaller has been designed to ensure that no programs, files, folders or registry entries are left behind after uninstalling.

DOES THIS SOFTWARE REALLY WORK WITH ANY WINDOWS APPLICATION?

We have worked hard to make this software compatible with any application. However you may find that a particular application does not render quite as you would like it to when using Dark Mode Any App. If this is the case, please do contact us and we will work to improve compatibility with your app.

IS DARK MODE ANY APP  COMPATIBLE WITH MY VERSION OF WINDOWS?

Dark Mode Any App is compatible with Windows 11, 10, 8, 7 and Windows Vista. Compatibility with other versions of windows is untested. x64 (64-bit) and x86 (32-bit) versions of Windows are both supported and the installer will automatically deploy the version appropriate to your machine. We may even be able to offer an installer for Windows XP. If you have any special requirements, please contact us.
